WE SOMETIMES NEED TO GET AWAY

We sometimes need to get away from the noise and the crowd
To find a place of solitude where distractions aren’t allowed.

We sometimes need a hiding place where others will not trod,
So we can rest and meditate upon the things of God.

Sometimes we all grow weary in our struggle to survive,
But as we pause to seek His face, we’re glad that we’re alive.

A candle burned at both ends creates a lovely light,
But too soon the flame’s extinguished–it will not last the night!

We sometimes need to get away to rest, perhaps to nod.
For then we hear the still small voice which speaks the things of God.

OUR GREATEST NEED

I remember a summer in which I said, “It is the ocean that I need.” So I went to the ocean but when I got there the ocean said, “It is not in me.” The ocean did not do for me what I thought it would.

Then I said, “The mountains will rest me.” So I went to the mountains and when I awoke in the morning there stood the grand mountain that I wanted so much to see, but the mountain said, “It is not in me.” The mountains did not satisfy.

Ah, what I really need is the ocean of God’s love and the high mountains of His truth within. Jesus, the creator of the oceans and mountains is our greatest need, and our restlessness within can only be met by receiving the revelation of His great sacrifice and eternal love for us.
